Care guide

Looking after your hair between visits

General guidance by texture and style. Your stylist knows your head best — treat this as a starting point, not a prescription.

By texture

Type 1 — Straight

Wash day
Every 1–2 days; oil travels down the strand fast.
Products that work
Lightweight clarifying shampoo, volumizing mousse, dry shampoo between washes.
Skip
Heavy butters and thick creams — they flatten the root.

Type 2 — Wavy

Wash day
2–3 times a week with a sulfate-free wash.
Products that work
Sea-salt or curl-defining spray, light gel, leave-in milk.
Skip
Brushing dry hair; use fingers or a wide-tooth comb while damp.

Type 3 — Curly

Wash day
Once a week, co-wash mid-week if hair feels dry.
Products that work
Creamy leave-in, curl custard or gel, weekly deep conditioner.
Skip
Terry towels and high heat — use a microfiber towel or cotton tee.

Type 4 — Coily / Kinky

Wash day
Every 7–10 days; pre-poo with oil before shampoo.
Products that work
Rich butter or cream, sealing oil, protein treatment monthly.
Skip
Detangling dry. Always work in sections on soaked, conditioned hair.

By style

Box braids & knotless

6–8 weeks max

Cleanse the scalp with a diluted shampoo or applicator bottle weekly, light oil on the scalp twice a week, satin scarf or bonnet nightly. Take them down before the roots start locking.

Locs

Ongoing

Retwist every 4–8 weeks — more often and you risk thinning roots. Use residue-free shampoo, and dry completely to avoid mildew.

Sew-ins & wigs

6–10 weeks

Wash and condition your own hair underneath, keep the leave-out heat-protected, and give your scalp a two-week break between installs.

Relaxed hair

Touch-ups every 8–12 weeks

Relax new growth only, never overlap. Protein and moisture treatments alternate weekly to prevent breakage.

Twist-outs & wash-and-gos

3–5 days

Refresh with a water and leave-in spritz each morning, pineapple the hair at night, and re-twist every few days.
